Why attend a Motivational Seminar?

How many of you would attend a motivational seminar? I’m asking because I know quite a few people that are either intimidated by the idea or a little embarrassed. As a matter of fact, I have friends that are afraid to purchase a self help book, in fear of what others may think! Somehow some of them think it is a sign of weakness to do so…. There is absolutely no shame whatsoever in trying to improve yourself, and although self improvement is a very personal matter, here are some reasons why I really believe you should go out of your way to attend a professional motivational seminar:

Energy & atmosphere

The energy confined within a seminar is extraordinary. You will not find another place like it, something happens when you have a mass of people all looking to improve their life, circumstances, income and future. It is quite an experience, which rivals rock concerts and other gatherings in terms of excitement and enthusiasm from both the presenters and the audience. This positive energy is very addictive and you will find yourself having a tremendous time. Although the topics and stories may sometimes be of a serious nature, the atmosphere is never one of sadness or sorrow. It is about re-inventing yourself and making your life better. Put together hundreds, thousands or tens of thousands of the same-minded people and what you get is pure magic. The mere buzz that flows through the event will have you wanting more, accepting to do more and ultimately achieve more.

Networking

These seminars are some of the best places on the planet to make contacts with like-minded people, which can develop into fruitful business relationships or long lasting personal friendships. You will be surprised that the vast majority of people attending these seminars are quite affluent and highly successful individuals in their own right. If you run your own business, this is a wonderful place to network and get the word out about your company, as well as learn about others in your region that you may not have been aware of. Everyone that attends seminars usually leave with a few new friends, and having friends and/or contacts that are on the same wavelength as you are is extremely important to help you succeed in life and business. Remember no one ever makes it on their own… it’s a TEAM effort. On a personal note, I and my business Partners attended a motivational seminar in March of this year (Dallas, Texas) and forged a business relationship with a company that will be worth millions to our company in 2011.

New insights

What’s great about seminars is that the presenter can go into greater details about their success or experiences that made you want to attend the seminar in the first place. Therefore, you are likely to get much more information and insights into what helped them create their specific success. It also helps to humanise the speaker and when you see that the life-changing knowledge that you read or listened to was created by a human being not that much different from you, it will show you that you are just as capable to create wonderful things in your life as well. Also, these professional seminars usually include a guest lineup speakers from different fields of business and success, so you are very likely to learn much more than you thought you would. You definitely leave a motivational seminar with a ton of new knowledge.

Inspiring stories

One of my favorite aspects of motivational seminars is that it is very interactive with the audience. People are encouraged to ask questions and share their stories. It’s one thing to hear about the presenters and their stories about turning their lives around, but when you hear it from someone sitting next to you, to me that is even more powerful. It makes everything real and possible for you, in that if these people next to you are capable of it, then nothing is stopping you from doing the same. As well, this is a platform for you to share your inspiring story too! You may find sharing your story very rewarding and very therapeutic. This is what’s great about these events…everyone is there to help each other, including within the audience itself.

Your dedication to your cause

Attending a motivational seminar used to require quite an investment from you. They used to be quite expensive in terms of money, and they used to be time consuming as well. Today however that’s not the case you can attend a one day seminar with world class speakers for less than £20.00 (example: www.getmotivatedgb.com a one day event with a stellar line up of speakers, including James Caan, Zig Ziglar, Karren Brady, Mark Victor Hansen, Morris Goodman, Christine Hamilton and more) Also, you need to attend with your utmost focus & concentration, along with an open mind so that you can absorb the information & experience properly. Needless to say, you can clearly see that it requires a vast dedication on your part to effectively attend such an event. This is why most people do not, because most people give up or don’t want to put in the effort. However, attending a motivational seminar will help proclaim how serious and dedicated you are to turning your life around and improving it. This is why so many people go back home completely different individuals. When you combine such dedication with insightful knowledge, the result can truly be life-changing.

Boost your motivation momentum

As you go through your daily life, you will probably only remember at most 10-15% of any book’s information. After all, the act of reading a book isn’t memorable. However, attending a motivational seminar is absolutely a memorable event to take part of. This is why you are much more likely to remember knowledge from such an event, compared to having just read the book. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to skyrocket your motivation into the stratosphere, where if you are smart about it, you can ride that momentum all the way to accomplishing all the goals you ever dreamed of.

If you are looking for a motivational seminar to attend, please take a look at this GMGB2011 from all of the greats in the personal development industry I proudly recommend it!

Make 2011 the best year of your life, after all its show time right now…. It’s not a dress rehearsal.

Why MOTIVATION is the Key to Success!

Motivation plays a critical role in achieving your personal goals and business objectives. Motivation is equally as important for companies that work in a team-based environment or in a workplace comprised of workers who work independently.

Making sure each employee's workplace goals and values are aligned with the organisation's mission and vision is important for creating and maintaining a high level of motivation. That can lead to higher productivity, improved work quality and financial gain across all departments.

Significance
Motivation has become increasingly important for organisations and companies of all sizes that want to reach their organisational objectives in a competitive marketplace. Top performers of an organisation consistently provide high-quality work, maintain a high level of productivity and overcome obstacles or challenges. Helping all employees maintain a high level of motivation can help keep employees committed to working hard and contributing as much value as possible to the organisation.

Types
You can use a variety of strategies to improve motivation. Managers who serve as leaders within the organisation can help convey the right messages to engage employees and help them grow within their positions. Motivation can be increased with incentives, feedback, rewards programs, training and ensuring that the workplace meets basic needs and requirements for each employee. Common types of motivational tactics include: events that raise employee morale; training and education to help employees learn new skills and grow within their positions; recognition programs to highlight hard work and reinforcing positive messages during company or team meetings. check out: www.getmotivatedgb.com for cost effective worldclass events.

Benefits
Motivational strategies can help improve employee performance, reduce the chances of low employee morale, encourage teamwork and instill a positive attitude during challenging times. Employees with a high level of motivation typically work harder and can overcome common workplace challenges with ease; this helps the organisation reach its objectives and improve operations overall.

Effects
Any company or organisation that notices a significant decline in productivity, high employee turnover or that cannot reach its goals successfully may need to consider the role of motivation among its employees. Low motivation can trigger a variety of detrimental events that affect the organisation in the short term and in the long term. Unmotivated staff members are at risk of resigning, delivering poor-quality work and even making it difficult for other employees to do their jobs efficiently.

Prevention/Solution
Reducing the risk of low motivation among employees typically requires a strategic plan and a combination of different activities and tactics that help improve employee morale. Companies that invest time and resources toward improving their employees' well-being and workplace experience can look forward to a high return on their investment as employees become more productive, maintain a positive attitude, commit to their roles and duties and maintain a strong work ethic.

In Summary: Motivation is the key to SUCCESS in life and business!
Supercharge 2011 and join me with a host of worldclass speakers at GET MOTIVATED Great Britain 2011.... You will be glad you did.

Don't Quit Poem!

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don't you quit.

Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow--
You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor's cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out--
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit--
It's when things seem worst that you must not quit.

An Attitude of Gratitude!

An Attitude of Gratitude:
There’s a world of difference between having an attitude of gratitude and being grateful because someone has told you to be grateful! Being told can make you feel resentful because you’re being treated as if you don’t know how to be grateful.
But maybe that’s because your attitude doesn’t reflect how you feel inside.
Low self esteem!
Shyness!
The inability to speak out may mask your true feelings. Your face and body language will show your insecurities however grateful you may be feeling.
So it would be good to grow an attitude of gratitude wouldn’t it. It will also have the knock on effect of you growing your self esteem and confidence. All steps towards Powerful Positive Living.
First of all you have to ask yourself if you are grateful for your life or whether you moan about this and that because you can. Is your glass half empty or is it half full? Do you appreciate your life and see your problems or misfortunes as learning/growth opportunities? What do you take for granted?
Count your blessings and list all the things in your life you are happy with. Go back to this list as often as you like... I recommend daily! Add to it as you remember new events or things. This will also have the blessing of reminding your subconscious mind that you have much to be grateful for. Gradually your glass will be half full and over time will start to overflow.
You are growing the ability to focus on what is going well in your life. Grow the habit of sending thank you notes or letters…. Even to yourself. Learn to say ‘thank you’ in person. Each action is another step towards changing your attitude and developing an attitude of gratitude.
Learn to look for ways to show how much you appreciate what others are doing or have done for you.
Besides making their day you will have the added bonus of feeling great. This will show on the outside as well as on the inside. You will probably be smiling more often and you may not even realise it.
Your attitude of gratitude will grow your happiness by leaps and bounds. Your resilience to what this game we like to call ‘life’ throws at you, will be stronger because deep inside you will know just how blessed your life is no matter what is going on around you.
And my friends that is something to be truly grateful for.

How to be MOTIVATED when working from home!

The importance of self motivation when working from home will probably be one of the most important factors in determining if your home based business or employment will become a success. Most people have become so conditioned to having to travel to their place of work with all the conditions that go with it that the perceived ‘freedom’ from an office based environment when working from home can result in a lack of self motivation. After all, we all consider our home to be a place of refuge where we can find relaxation and pursue our own social and leisure activities. Therefore, without careful thought and planning, many people fail to adapt to home-based work as easily as they thought they would.
In fact, many people often find the lack of human interaction that they were used to in, say, an office environment drains them of energy and they’re not as productive or as creative as they were when they had colleagues to bounce ideas off. Nevertheless, providing you set yourself some basic ground rules, you can stay motivated and enjoy your new working arrangements.
Avoiding Distractions
If you thought you often got distracted in the office, you’ll soon discover that there are even more distractions at home which, if not kept in check, will soon result in a total lack of self motivation. There’s the TV, of course, then the phone you’d be surprised at just how many friends and family assume it’s OK to call you during working hours because you’re ‘at home’.
Then there might be issues around children, pets and things like household chores, e.g. doing the laundry, mowing the lawn and taking out the rubbish. To maintain your self motivation, therefore, you need to be strict about separating your work based activities from those other tasks that you’d normally have seen to after you finished work when you were in an office environment.

Make sure you tell friends to call you after you’ve finished work and tell them that visiting you when you’re working is off limits. Don’t have the TV on in the background either…. This is a big mistake for many home workers.
Keeping Office Hours
One of the best ways to retain your motivation is to set yourself ‘office hours’. Remember, if you have a family, it’s not just about your needs – your family has needs too so, whilst they should respect your need for time and space to get the work done, it’s important to make time for them too, otherwise they may end up feeling neglected and become resentful which is bound to have a detrimental effect on your ability to remain focused and maintain your self motivation.
Keeping to office hours doesn’t necessarily mean having to work from 9 to 5. Perhaps, you have young children you need to get off to school. Therefore, you may decide to put in an hour’s work before the children get up and then come back to your work once you’ve taken them to school. After all, working from home should be about giving you increased flexibility and freedom.
Of course, you may occasionally have to work longer hours to meet a deadline but it’s still important to get into the habit of having set working hours that you stick to rigidly if you're going to retain your personal motivation.
Planning Your Workload
Many home based workers suffer from a lack of motivation simply because they’re not organised and haven’t bothered to devise a plan for what they’re going to work on each day. Even when working from home, you might find there are elements of your work which you enjoy less than others. The secret here is to complete the tasks that you don’t particularly enjoy either first thing or at a time when you know your energy levels are at their highest. Don’t leave the bad stuff to the end of the day.

Plan your day into task categories. For example, set aside a time when you’re going to deal with e-mail correspondence and work related phone calls. Obviously, you might need to respond to a particular e-mail or call outside of your allocated slot for this but by breaking down your tasks into separate manageable ‘chunks’, this will help you to stay organised and more importantly, to keep your self motivation level high.
Choose a Designated Space For Your Work
Whether it’s a spare bedroom, a proper study or the conservatory, make sure you have a designated space for your work and that those you are living with know that it is off limits whilst you’re working. They need to respect the fact that you are working and that they should not be giving you any distractions during these hours.
Remember It’s a Home Too
Finally, remember that as well as being your workspace, it is a home too. Therefore, respect those you are living with too. Don’t lock yourself away beyond your usual work time. Take some time off to devote to your family first then if, occasionally, you have to work longer at certain times, you can.
Even if you live alone, make sure that you don’t get sucked into a culture of long working hours. That will only result in a lack of motivation. Give yourself rewards for your achievements – whether that’s a long soak in the bath, a trip out somewhere or a social gathering with friends.
The important thing is to keep the ‘work’ part separate from your ‘home’ life and to get the balance right. Those who are successful in working from home are those who retain their personal self motivation and organise their work/life balance in such a way that they don’t start resenting why they began working from home in the first place. It’s not for everybody but it can be the ideal solution for many people in these uncertain economic times. Good Luck!

How To Become A Successful Online Entrepreneur in 2010!

How to Become a Successful Online Entrepreneur in 2010
There is no doubt that in these uncertain economic times MILLIONS of people would like to know exactly how to become a successful online entrepreneur without remortgaging their home or getting massive bank loans!

For a start let us take a look at the dictionary definition of the word entrepreneur. I think we need to be clear about what exactly an entrepreneur is before going any further, as the word get misused daily.

Cambridge dictionaries, define an entrepreneur as someone who starts their own business, especially when this involves risks!
Risks, I here you say... doesn’t that mean risking MONEY?

So, there is no confusion here. It is very clear.... If you start your own business you are an entrepreneur but it does seem to have to also include an element of risk. But the risk does not have to be massive financial risk.

You could argue that any new business involves risk and that is certainly true, but successful entrepreneurs are willing to take much greater risks than your average new business starter and why not they have experience and spare cash.

How exactly do you become a successful online entrepreneur?
Well that has to be the million dollar question. If there were a prescribed and reliable formula, we would all be multi millionaires. There would be no risk and so paradoxically, perhaps no more entrepreneurs!

There are certain characteristics that successful entrepreneurs seem to possess, such as:
1. Total dedication.
2. Goal Orientation.
3. Self Motivated.
So what drives an entrepreneur and what makes them different to most other people?
What is their vision compared to other people?

For certain there are a number of qualities they all share and without them, they would probably not be entrepreneurs.

Entrepreneurial Qualities:
You could say that any person willing to work hard at their own business is an entrepreneur, but it has to be more than that. Many people try unsuccessfully to make it on their own, and many, in fact most fail, often just giving up because their efforts do not produce the hoped for results quickly enough.

The true entrepreneur is remorseless in the pursuit of their goal. For them it is as much about achievement as it is about money, but the money, as you might guess, is the real proof of success. Society no longer views anyone a success who does not make money in business.

Entrepreneurialism has making money at its heart but the means to achieving this is almost incidental.

You could sum up the major qualities of a successful entrepreneur as follows:

A successful entrepreneur thinks outside the box and is never satisfied with mediocrity in any part of their life.

A successful entrepreneur is not necessarily obsessive, but is extremely highly motivated and committed to achieving their goals.

All successful entrepreneurs leverage the efforts of others. This is a good and beneficial thing as long as it does not involve exploitation.

No obstacle, other than death maybe, is too difficult to overcome. Where there is a will, there is a way. It is all in the mindset! It’s not what happens to you on your journey – but how you react to what happens that matters.

There is no giving up, even when the road to success is full of potholes or in my case grand canyon’s!
The successful entrepreneur will do whatever it takes to reach the goal even if it means starting all over again.

The successful entrepreneur must be able to handle both risk and stress. If not, burn out is extremely likely in a short period of time.

So where does that leave you? Maybe you are put off already?
It seems clear that the online entrepreneur is a special breed – YES that’s true but they are created not born.

Is it your intention to become one or are you already an entrepreneur?
Do you think you have at least some of the above qualities? You will probably need them all unless you just happen to get lucky in some way. If you don’t have them all are you willing to be mentored into learning them along the way?

The new breed Online Entrepreneur!
I believe a new breed of online entrepreneur is emerging in 2010. They have all the necessary qualities of determination but are of a different mindset and they want success quickly... In our fast paced media driven, roast dinner on demand world, delayed gratification is becoming as exclusive as the DoDo.
These New Breed Entrepreneurs conduct most of their business online, often utilising powerful management software, automated CRM’s and virtual products and or services.

But it is not just about making money for many of them. Many of them want to help people SAVE money and some are also dedicated to helping others succeed in business and often set up and special ‘mentoring project’ to achieve this. This is not a show of wealth but a genuine act of benevolence with the belief that “You Can Get Everything You Want In Life As Long As you Just Help Enough Other People Get What They Want”. Quote Zig Ziglar.

With this in mind, perhaps there is a further quality we should be adding to our list of what it takes to become a successful online entrepreneur.

Sharing success with others and especially with those whose lives are deprived or impoverished in comparison to our own.

The new successful online entrepreneur is most likely an online operator because it is more than possible to have a great deal of success, even just working from home.

The risks are much smaller when working online and it is a relatively inexpensive start-up compared to most traditional businesses. In fact my own research has shown that the startup costs can be as little as 1% of traditional start up costs.

The secret of how to become a successful online entrepreneur is quite simple. You need a proven system that can easily and quickly be tapped into where all the hard work has already been done for you. You just buy into the ride.... so to speak.

There are many offers available but the best solution has to be a best of breed, online service, repeat order with a residual income component built in.

I would not involve myself in any other kind of business.... and believe me over the past 20 years I’ve seen them all.
Think about how many people you know with computers at home! Now think of how many times you have heard about someone losing their data, photos, music, movies and more due to fire, flood, virus, theft or hardware failure.
Now think about how many people you know that are worried about what their children are looking at on the internet and how many spam emails they get.
Now consider the risks with computers in the home:
• Fire – 3.7 homes catch on fire every second, that’s 117 Million a year.
• Flood – Depending where you live your chances of being flooded are either 1 in 75 or 1 in 200.
• Virus – A new virus is released every 30 seconds, that’s over 1.2 million a year.
• Theft – A laptop/computer is stolen every 30 seconds.
• Hardware Failure – 1 in 10 hard drives fail in the first year.
• Spam Emails – More than 1.4 Million Spam emails are sent every second, that’s 46.7 Trillion a year.
• Identity Theft – 1 out of 10 people will be a victim of identity theft a year.
• Cyber Crime – In 2009 Cyber Crime will cost consumers in excess of 3 Trillion US Dollars.
• Pornography – 90% of 8-16 year olds have viewed pornography whilst doing their home work.
The average age of the first internet experience exposure to pornography is 11 years old.
The risks have never been higher – computers have changed our lives forever, but have also exposed us to a level of risk, we have never experienced before.
It’s not a matter of if something will happen; it’s a matter of when.
Now think of a place on the internet where you can solve all of these problems in a few clicks of a mouse. The very latest, best of breed solutions to all of your IT Security needs at significant discounts - 50 – 82%

"The best way for you to get what you want"

"The best way for you to get what you want," said Jim Rohn, the success guru "is to help other people get what they want."

If you can fully grasp this concept, then implement it, you will never lack for material abundance.

Would you need a striking example?

How about the one of the richest men in the world, Bill Gates? Chances are good that you are using some Microsoft products right now. Why? It is because you need them and they work. In fact, so many people needed what he provided that he became the richest man in the world at one point. True, there are other products out there that could do the same or even better and you may regard Bill Gates more as a ruthless capitalist than a humanitarian, but the point remains... he provided the software industry what it needed in its fledgling days and he never let up on the momentum. Thats his secret!

Similarly, Henry Ford, Thomas Edison and John Rockefeller became extremely rich because of the same principle. Again, it doesn't really matter whether you like these people or not... that is not the point. The point is that they provided an essential service when people needed that service most.

They helped people get what they wanted and prospered enormously. Thats why my good friend Mr Zig Ziglar has always said: "You can have everything you want in life.... so long as you help enough other people get what they want!"

You can do the same... right now!

In any company, in any entrepreneurial venture, it is the service provider who takes home the money. The slackers, the cynics, and the rebels watch the prizes fly past their noses.

Although this principle is clear, very few people do it. They are too preoccupied with slandering those who implement it and too bitter and angry about their own struggles to credit the principle. Sometimes, in fact, they are so jaded that they don't even see the principle in action... All they se eis what they want to see.

When you can provide more quality of service, more quantity of service and more eagerness to provide the service, the world will beat a path to your door. Of course, you can choose what service you provide... But it has to be something that you love to do and know there is a need for. The words "Under-Sale" and "over-deliver" and "extra-mile" are used to describe this principle. You can start right where you stand and apply the habit of going the extra mile by rendering more service and better service than you are now being paid for.

Sometimes people are reluctant to give others what they want because they feel that they will have less for themselves. Sometimes they simply believe that they are compromising themselves when they do this and become ruthless. This is not true - ZIP!

When you do what you love, you express your own nobility by giving more of what you love to others. There is no question about diminishing yourself in any way. In fact, it is just the opposite... you expand yourself! Instead of being a taker, you become a giver... thus, your virtue, too, is improved.

Please note that it is not important whether or not you are the best. This comes through experience. And experence comes through ACTION!

A major success stopper blocker has to do with believing that you are not able to do this simple thing. Why? It is because you lack confidence in yourself. This is a major stumbling block... not only in making more money, but in living a full life. If you lack confidence, it is because you have had painful experiences in the past that have created a distorted sense of self-worth or someone in your past has been using negative talk to you (maybe your parents)which has crippled your own self belief.

The wrap up. If you want more money, you have to provide more people with what they want. If you provide a service in something you love, you expand your power to give and rather than diminishing your value, it expands it. If you dont have a clue as to which service to offer... why not consider joining one the best teams in the world! Visit www.davasec.com for more details.

Finally, you must have total self-confidence to implement this strategy... because it takes a sense of unwavering self-worth to stay the course.

In the game of life, it is the team players who make winning possible for everyone - so become a team player today.

Tremendously Yours

Get Off Your Butt & Start Winning!
16 Ways to Get Motivated When You’re in a Slump

By: Andy T. Hansen

Even the most motivated of us, you, me and even Zig Ziglar… can feel unmotivated at times. In fact, sometimes we get into such a slump that even thinking about making positive changes seems too difficult.
But it’s not hopeless… with some small steps, baby ones in fact, you can get started down the road to positive change. As my good friend Morris Goodman says: Inch by Inch it’s a cinch…. “Yard by Yard it’s too hard”!
Yes, I know, it seems impossible at times. You don’t feel like doing anything. I’ve been there and in fact I still feel that way from time to time. So….you’re not alone. But I’ve learned a few ways to break out of a slump and we’ll take a look at those right now.
Being motivated is like fitness training. If you fall out of exercise, due to illness or injury or disruption from things going on in your life, it’s hard to get started again. Here are some simple steps that will help you shake out of it and get back on track!

(1) One Goal. Whenever I’ve been in a slump, I’ve discovered that it’s often because I have too much going on in my life. I’m trying to do too much, to fast. It saps my energy and motivation. It’s probably the most common mistake that people make. They spread themselves too thin, they try to take on too much, try to accomplish too many goals at once. You cannot maintain energy and focus (the two most important things in accomplishing any goal) if you are trying to do two or more goals at once. It’s not possible! I’ve tried it so many times. You have to choose one goal for now, and focus on it completely. You have to focus on it with white heat intensity! I know that’s hard to pick one and focus on, it but still, I speak from experience. You can always do your other goals when you’ve accomplished your current number One Goal.

(2) Find inspiration. Inspiration, for me, comes from others who have achieved what I want to achieve or who are currently doing it. I read other blogs, books, magazines. I ‘Google’ my goal and read success stories. I listen to Zig Ziglar, Morris Goodman or any of the motivational greats.

(3) Get excited. This sounds obvious but most people don’t think about it much. If you want to break out of a slump, get yourself excited about your goal. “But how can you do that when you don’t feel motivated”, I hear you ask? Well, it starts with inspiration from others (see above), but you have to take that excitement and build on it. For me, I’ve learned that by talking to my wife about it and to others, reading as much about it as possible and visualising what it would be like to be successful (seeing the benefits of the goal in my head), I get excited about a goal. Once I’ve done that… it’s just a matter of carrying that energy forward and keeping it going... whatever the world throws at me.

(4) Build anticipation. This will sound hard and many people will skip this tip... but you must not. If you find inspiration and want to achieve a goal, don’t start right away. Many of us will get excited and want to start today. That’s a big mistake. Set a date in the future, a week or two, or even a month and make that your Start Date. Mark it on the calendar-your new ‘One Goal Start Date’. Get excited about that date. Make it the most important date in your life. In the meantime, start writing out a plan and do some of the steps below. Because by delaying your start, you are building anticipation, thus increasing your focus and energy for your goal.

(5) Post your goal. Print out your goal in big words. Make your goal just a few words long, (“I Will Close A Sale Every Day”) and post it up on your wall, or refrigerator. Display it at home and at work. Make sure you put it on your computer desktop. You want to have big reminders about your goal, to keep your focus and keep your excitement going. A picture of your goal also helps.

(6) Commit publicly. None of us like to look bad in front of others. We will go the extra mile to do something we’ve said publicly. I call it ‘Get Hung By The Tongue’ For example, when I wanted to become a motivational speaker, I started writing about it and telling everyone I met that I was one. I couldn’t back down and even though my motivation came and went, I stuck with it and completed it. You must hold yourself accountable… don’t just commit once, but commit to giving progress updates to everyone every week or so.

(7) Think about it daily. If you think about your goal every day, it is much more likely to become true. To this end, posting the goal on your wall or computer desktop (as mentioned above) helps a lot. Sending yourself daily reminders also helps. And if you can commit to doing one small thing to further your goal (even just 5 minutes) every single day, your goal will almost certainly come true.

(8) Get support. It’s hard to accomplish something alone. When I decided to become a motivational speaker, I had the help of friends, family and associates, I had a great ‘Motivational Speaker Community’ who encouraged me. And of course, my wife Wendy helped every step of the way. I couldn’t have achieved this goal without her, or without the others who supported me. Find your support team, either in the real world or online, or even better….both.

(9) Realise that there’s an ebb and flow. Motivation is not a constant thing that is always there for you. It comes and goes… comes and goes again, like the tide. But realise that while it may go away, it doesn’t do so permanently. It will come back. Just stick it out and wait for that motivation to come back. In the meantime, read about your goal (see below), ask for help (see below), and do some of the other things listed here until your motivation comes back.

(10) Stick with it. Whatever you do, don’t give up. Even if you aren’t feeling any motivation today or this week, don’t give up. Again, that motivation will come back. Think of your goal as a long journey and your slump is just a little bump in the road. You can’t give up with every little bump. The road to the top or your goal is full of potholes. In my case, there were some Grand Canyons! Stay with it for the long term, ride out the ebbs and surf on the flows and you’ll get there.

(11) Start small. Really small. If you are having a hard time getting started, it may be because you’re thinking too big. If you want to exercise, for example, you may be thinking that you have to do these intense workouts 5 days a week. No you don’t… instead, do small, tiny, baby steps. Just do 2 minutes of exercise. I know, that sounds wimpy. But it works. Commit to 2 minutes of exercise for one week. You may want to do more, but just stick to 2 minutes. It’s so easy, you can’t fail. Do it at the same time, every day. Once you’ve done 2 minutes a day for a week, increase it to 5, and stick with that for a week. In a month, you’ll be doing 15-20. Want to wake up early? Don’t think about waking at 5 a.m. Instead, think about waking 10 minutes earlier for a week. That’s all…. Once you’ve done that, wake 10 minutes earlier than that. Baby steps…. remember, ‘Inch by Inch it’s a cinch’!

(12) Build on small successes. Again, if you start small for a week, you’re going to be successful. You can’t fail if you start with something ridiculously easy. Who can’t exercise for 2 minutes? (If that’s you, I apologise,). And you’ll feel successful, and good about yourself. Take that successful feeling and build on it, with another baby step. Add 2-3 minutes to your exercise routine, for example. With each step (and each step should last about a week), you will feel even more successful. If you want to build a strong business, commit to close one more sale this week, then 2 next week, then 3, then 4 and so on. Make each step really, really small and you won’t fail. After a couple of months, your tiny steps will add up to a lot of progress and a lot of success.

(13) Read about it daily. When I lose motivation, I just read a book or blog about my goal. It inspires me and reinvigorates me. For some reason, reading helps motivate and focus you on whatever you’re reading about. So read about your goal every day, if you can, especially when you’re not feeling motivated.

(14) Call for help when your motivation ebbs. Having trouble? Ask for help. Email me: andy@davasec.com or get a partner to join you. Call your business partner or your life partner. It doesn’t matter who, just tell them how you feel as talking about it will help. Don’t dump on them or end up in a ‘thumb sucking’ session, be objective and ask for help. Ask them to help you overcome your slump… if they are on your team they will. It works.

(15) Think about the benefits, not the difficulties. One common problem is that we think about how hard something is. Exercise sounds so hard! Closing a sale sounds so hard! Making more money sounds so hard! Finding new customers is so hard! Just thinking about it makes you tired and makes everyone around you tired. Instead of thinking about how hard something is, think about what you will get out of it. For example, instead of thinking about how tiring exercise can be, focus on how good you’ll feel when you’re done and how you’ll be healthier and slimmer over the long run. The benefits of something will help energise you... Fact!

(16) Squash negative thoughts; replace them with positive ones. Along those lines, it’s important to start monitoring your thoughts. Recognise negative self-talk, which is really what’s causing your slump. Just spend a few days becoming aware of every negative thought you have. Then, after a few days, try squashing those negative thoughts like a bug, stamp on them like an ant. Then replace them with a corresponding positive thought. Squash, “This is too hard”! and replace it with, “I can do this”! If that wimp ROGER can do it, so can I… It sounds corny, but it works. I promise you it really does.
